Thu Jan 02 20:18:03 UTC 2025: ## TMC Leader Slams Centre’s Handling of Bangladesh Situation, Accuses BSF of Complicity

**Kolkata, [Date of Publication]** – Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee today criticized the central government’s response to the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh, accusing it of inaction and the Border Security Force (BSF) of facilitating militant infiltration into West Bengal.

Speaking after launching a social initiative in Diamond Harbour, Banerjee stated that the Centre’s diplomatic efforts were “inadequate” and demanded stronger action against the Bangladesh government. He directly blamed the BSF, without naming the Union Home Ministry, for allowing militants and infiltrators to cross the border, claiming that West Bengal police have been actively apprehending those who did enter. He further countered opposition claims of West Bengal becoming a terrorist hub, highlighting the state’s progress in health, education, and development.

Banerjee questioned the Centre’s silence on the situation in Bangladesh since August 5th, specifically criticizing their lack of visible action despite earlier promises of providing shelter to Hindus fleeing the country. He reiterated the BSF’s primary duty is border security and challenged West Bengal BJP leaders to demand a stronger response from the central government regarding the alleged atrocities against minorities in Bangladesh.

While stating the TMC will follow the Centre’s lead on the matter, Banerjee urged the state’s BJP to pressure the Modi government for a more forceful diplomatic response. He appealed for calm and harmony within West Bengal, urging citizens to ignore those attempting to incite violence using the Bangladesh situation as a pretext.
