**Nelson, New Zealand** – Kusal Perera etched his name in Sri Lankan cricket history today, smashing the fastest ever T20I century for his country during the third T20I against New Zealand. His electrifying innings of 101 runs off just 46 balls eclipsed the previous record held by Tillakaratne Dilshan, who scored a century in 55 balls against Australia in 2011.

Perera’s blistering knock, which included 13 fours and four sixes, propelled Sri Lanka to a challenging 218/5 in their allotted 20 overs. His incredible strike rate of 219.57 showcased his aggressive batting prowess.

This achievement is even more significant as it also marks Perera surpassing 2000 T20I runs, making him the first Sri Lankan batsman to reach this milestone. Since his debut in 2013, Perera has played 77 T20Is, scoring 2056 runs at an average of 28.16 and a strike rate of 134.11. He now boasts one century and 15 half-centuries in the format.

The match, currently underway at Saxton Oval, is proving to be a thrilling encounter between New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
