Thu Jan 02 04:19:09 UTC 2025: ## New Orleans Car Ramming Attack Kills 10, Sparks Terrorism Investigation

**New Orleans, LA –** A horrific car-ramming attack in New Orleans’ French Quarter on New Year’s Day left ten people dead and numerous others injured. The attack, which occurred amidst New Year’s celebrations, is being investigated as an act of terrorism by the FBI.

The suspect, identified as 42-year-old US Army veteran Shamsud-Din Jabbar of Texas, intentionally drove a vehicle into crowds of revelers, according to Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick. An ISIS flag was found in the vehicle, further fueling suspicions of a terrorist motive. Authorities believe Jabbar may not have acted alone.

Jabbar, who served over ten years in the military, including a deployment to Afghanistan, had a history of minor offenses, including theft and driving with an invalid license. Recent financial troubles, including significant debt and business losses, were also revealed.

Witnesses described chaotic and terrifying scenes, comparing the aftermath to a war zone. One witness recounted seeing bodies thrown into the air and victims crying on the ground.

The attack occurred despite heightened security measures in the French Quarter, including increased police presence. The area was hosting various New Year’s events, including LGBTQ celebrations. The incident occurred shortly before the city’s Sugar Bowl football game.

International condemnation swiftly followed, with President Biden stating there is “no justification for violence of any kind.” President-elect Trump controversially linked the attack to illegal immigration. French President Macron and Ukrainian President Zelensky also expressed their condolences and condemned the violence.

In a separate incident in Las Vegas, a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside a hotel owned by President-elect Trump, resulting in one death and seven injuries. While authorities initially deemed this an isolated incident, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk suggested a possible link to the New Orleans attack, noting both vehicles were rented through Turo. President Biden has ordered an investigation into any potential connection between the two events.
