**Lucknow, India** – A young man, Arshad, has been arrested for the brutal murder of his mother and four sisters in a Lucknow hotel. Arshad, along with his father Badar, allegedly strangled the five victims with a dupatta (scarf) after plying them with alcohol and sedatives.
According to police, Arshad confessed to first mixing sleeping pills into their food, then stuffing their mouths with cloth to silence them. Once unconscious, he and his father proceeded to cut the veins in the sisters’ wrists before finally strangling them. The gruesome act was followed by Arshad filming a six-minute, 54-second video of the bodies, with his father still restraining one of the victims in the footage.
Arshad admitted to being an alcoholic and frequently assaulting his family members, leading them to fear him. He confessed to purchasing alcohol before the murders, forcing his family to drink it before further drugging them with a mixture of alcohol and cold drink. Empty bottles were found at the scene. He also claimed to have threatened his family with dire consequences should they reveal his violence.
Police are investigating whether the murders were linked to any religious or superstitious practices as Arshad had recently visited various religious sites, including Ajmer Sharif. The police are analyzing call details, mobile phone data, and social media accounts for further clues. The investigation is ongoing.
