Wed Jan 01 13:25:49 UTC 2025: ## Kozhikode to Install Solar-Powered Fences to Protect Crops from Wildlife
**Kozhikode, Kerala, January 1, 2025** – The Kozhikode Forest Department is implementing a ₹2.72 crore project to install approximately 64 kilometers of solar-powered hanging fences along vulnerable forest borders. This initiative aims to mitigate the significant crop losses suffered by upland farmers due to recent wildlife attacks.
The project, launched by Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran, will focus on three key ranges: Peruvannamuzhi, Kuttiyadi, and Thamarassery. In Peruvannamuzhi, 18 kilometers of fencing will be erected in Alampara, Undamoola, Muthappanpuzha, Seethappara, and Chenkottakolly areas. Kuttiyadi will see 17.5 kilometers of fencing in Kavilumpara, Venimel, and Narippatta panchayats. Finally, Thamarassery will receive 12 kilometers of fencing in Thiruvambady, Kodenchery, and Puthuppady, with an additional 16 kilometers planned under a joint Agriculture Department scheme.
Beyond new installations, the project also includes maintenance work for existing fences spanning 27 kilometers across the three ranges, ensuring their continued effectiveness. The completed project will significantly enhance crop protection for farmers in the region, reducing the impact of wildlife incursions.
