Wed Jan 01 14:52:24 UTC 2025: **Erode Corporation Expands, Incorporating Several Villages and Upgrading Towns**

**Erode, Tamil Nadu, January 1, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu State government has significantly expanded the Erode Corporation’s boundaries, incorporating four village panchayats and several other local bodies. The expansion, effective immediately, is based on factors such as population growth, business activity, industrial development, and urban expansion.

According to a government order issued on December 31, 2024, the village panchayats of Kadhirampatti and Mettunasuvam Palayam (Erode Panchayat Union), and 46 Pudur and Lakkapuram (Modakkurichi Panchayat Union) have been merged into the Erode Corporation.

Further changes include the upgrading of Perundurai town panchayat to a municipality. Several other panchayats have been merged with existing municipalities: Kuruppanaickenpalayam with Bhavani; Vellalapalayam, Modachur, Kullampalayam, and Pariyur with Gobichettipalayam; and Nochikuttai and Nallur with Punjai Puliyampatti. Kavundapadi panchayat, along with Salangapalayam and P. Mettupalayam town panchayats, will now form the Kavundapadi municipality. Additionally, Mukasipidariyur village panchayat has been upgraded to a town panchayat, while Padavalkalvai and Akkaraikodiveri village panchayats have been merged with Ammapettai and Periyakodiveri town panchayats, respectively.

The government order allows residents within the affected areas six weeks to submit any objections in writing to the Principal Secretary of the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department in Chennai.
