Tue Dec 31 23:02:00 UTC 2024: ## CPI(M) Condemns Andhra Pradesh Government’s Policies, Questions Pawan Kalyan’s Secularism Remarks
**Vijayawada, January 1, 2025** – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] Andhra Pradesh unit has strongly criticized the state government’s policies, accusing it of misleading the public and increasing the burden on ordinary citizens. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, CPI(M) state secretary V. Srinivasa Rao unveiled the logo for the party’s upcoming state congress meeting in Nellore.
Rao highlighted rising taxes, including levies on essential goods like puffed rice and popcorn, as a major concern. He cited unfulfilled government promises, including the stalled development of pharmaceutical industries and the steel plant in Nakkapalli, and the ongoing issues faced by those displaced by the Polavaram project. He further expressed concerns about the insecurity felt by Amaravati farmers despite the capital city’s ambitious plans and the delayed implementation of the promised withdrawal of garbage tax and the mega DSC (District Selection Committee) recruitment.
Rao also challenged Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s questioning of the application of secularism to Hindus. He asserted that Kalyan, having sworn an oath under the Indian Constitution, should refrain from such comments. Rao defended the CPI(M)’s record on fighting religious extremism, highlighting their opposition to the MIM in Hyderabad and calling out Kalyan’s silence on the violence in Manipur. The press conference was attended by several other CPI(M) leaders.
