**New Delhi, December 31, 2024** – Delhi-NCR is bracing for New Year’s Eve celebrations under a blanket of strict security and traffic management measures. Authorities have implemented a comprehensive plan to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow amidst expected large crowds.
Significant restrictions are in place across the region. In Delhi, Connaught Place will see restricted vehicle entry from 8 PM onwards, with only authorized vehicles permitted. Ten areas surrounding Connaught Place are designated no-entry zones, and buses will be diverted from 7 PM. Rajiv Chowk Metro Station will remain open until services end, but gates 5 and 6 will be closed. India Gate will also experience restrictions at 14 points to manage crowds. Other popular areas like Hauz Khas and Khan Market will see a heightened police presence and potential restrictions. Drivers are advised to avoid Connaught Place after 7 PM and major thoroughfares like Vikas Marg, NH-24, and Pushta Road in East Delhi due to increased patrolling and checkpoints.
Noida is implementing parking restrictions, prohibiting on-road parking in Sector 18 on December 31st and January 1st. Designated multi-storey parking facilities with a capacity of approximately 3,000 vehicles will be available. Specific route diversions are in place, and commuters are advised to check designated parking areas at various malls and business parks.
Gurugram is deploying 2,000 police officers across 22 identified celebration hotspots. Ten interstate and 68 internal barricades will be set up, along with 10 designated parking areas near hotspots. Bars and restaurants operating beyond midnight require special permits, with fees ranging from Rs 20 lakh annually for operation until 2 AM to additional fees for each extra hour. Those without permits must close by midnight. Security checks will begin at 4 PM.
To combat drunk driving, Delhi Police has deployed 50 teams equipped with alcometers at key locations. Emergency services, including ambulances, fire tenders, and medical teams, will be strategically positioned.
Crowd management strategies include the deployment of nearly 20,000 police and paramilitary personnel across Delhi, including SWAT teams and bomb disposal squads. Gurugram will utilize Quick Reaction Teams and barricades, while Noida will enhance security at malls, clubs, and other public venues. Delhi police have divided the city into two zones for more effective management, with significant numbers of personnel and vehicles on duty. South and East Delhi have also announced their respective deployment plans to manage crowds and traffic.
