Tue Dec 31 20:05:38 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Air Quality Improves Slightly in 2024 Despite “Poor” Readings
**New Delhi, January 1, 2025** – Despite continued poor air quality in Delhi on New Year’s Day, with citizens seen sunbathing near Kartavya Path, official data reveals a slight improvement in the overall air quality of 2024 compared to the previous year.
According to data released by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), the average daily Air Quality Index (AQI) for 2024 was better than 2023, marking the second-best year since 2018, only surpassed by the COVID-19 affected year of 2020. The CAQM highlighted that 2024 saw the highest number of “good to moderate” AQI days and the lowest number of “poor to severe” AQI days since 2020.
While the AQI remained in the “poor” category on January 1st, the positive trend indicates a marginal improvement in Delhi’s air quality over the past year. However, concerns remain as the city continues to grapple with air pollution.
