**Imphal, Manipur –** Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh strongly condemned a militant attack in Imphal East district on Saturday, December 28th, 2024, which left four people injured, including a video journalist. The attack, which involved indiscriminate firing in Thamnapokpi and Sanasabi areas, is believed to have been carried out by Kuki militants.
The Chief Minister, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), denounced the violence as a “cowardly and unprovoked attack on innocent lives,” calling it an assault on peace and harmony. He confirmed that additional security forces have been deployed to the affected areas and that the injured are receiving medical attention. He urged calm and unity amidst the escalating violence.
Among the injured is L Kabichandra, a video journalist who sustained bullet wounds to his left thigh while reporting on the attack in Thamnapokpi village. Police suspect he was hit by a sniper. Security forces reportedly returned fire.
A separate incident on Friday night, December 27th, saw an elderly woman injured in militant firing near Thamnapokpi. Two other individuals, including a security personnel, were also injured in an earlier attack in Sanasabi on Friday. Chief Minister Singh emphasized the need for proper coordination and understanding between central forces and state police in handling such situations.
