Fri Dec 27 08:28:39 UTC 2024: ## Kohli-Jaiswal Mix-Up Costs India in Melbourne Test

**Melbourne, Australia** – A disastrous mix-up between Indian batting stars Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal cost India dearly on Day 2 of the fourth Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Jaiswal, who was on a promising 82, was run out after a miscommunication with Kohli, ending a crucial 102-run partnership for the third wicket.

The incident occurred on the final ball of the 41st over, bowled by Scott Boland. Jaiswal clipped the ball towards mid-on and called for a run, but Kohli, unaware of the fielder’s position, hesitated, leaving Jaiswal stranded halfway down the pitch. Pat Cummins’ quick throw to Alex Carey sealed Jaiswal’s dismissal.

Despite Jaiswal’s impressive innings, which included a series of stylish boundaries, and a 36 from Kohli, India ended the day at 164/5, still a significant 310 runs behind Australia’s first innings total of 474. Australia’s Steve Smith contributed a stylish 140 to his team’s total.

The Indian innings saw a flurry of wickets in the final half-hour. Scott Boland and Pat Cummins each claimed two wickets, while Rohit Sharma (3) and KL Rahul (24) also fell relatively early. Rishabh Pant (6*) and Ravindra Jadeja (4*) were unbeaten at the close.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma, reverting to his usual opening position, failed to make an impact, mirroring his recent poor form. Kohli was fined 20% of his match fee earlier in the match for a shoulder charge incident on Australian debutant Sam Konstas. The match continues.
