**BELAGAVI, Karnataka (December 27, 2024):** The Congress Working Committee (CWC) concluded a meeting in Belagavi, Karnataka, issuing strong condemnations of the BJP government and demanding the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah. The meeting, held at the historic Veera Soudha, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 1924 Belgaum Congress session chaired by Mahatma Gandhi, adopted resolutions centered around Gandhian ideals and opposition to several key government policies.
The CWC expressed outrage over alleged insults to B.R. Ambedkar by Mr. Shah, a claim the BJP vehemently denies, and reiterated its call for his resignation. A resolution condemned the BJP’s alleged undermining of the Constitution and the “widespread state-sponsored communal and ethnic hatred targeted at minorities,” citing the ongoing violence in Manipur as a prime example. The party also criticized the government’s handling of the situation in eastern Ladakh and expressed concern over the safety of minorities in Bangladesh.
Further resolutions included demands for a nationwide caste census, the removal of the 50% reservation cap, and reforms to the Goods and Services Tax (GST). The party also called for legal status for Minimum Support Prices (MSP) and increased MNREGA funding.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge urged party workers to raise awareness about the BJP’s alleged actions. Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition, highlighted concerns about alleged manipulation of election results in recent state elections, suggesting irregularities in the conduct of elections, and advocated for a data-driven approach to analyze these claims. Jairam Ramesh, head of the party’s communications wing, went so far as to suggest that some elections were “fixed,” citing concerns about the independence of Constitutional bodies.
To revitalize the party and amplify its messages, the Congress announced three yatras: the Sanghatan Srijan Yatra, the Jai Bapu, Jai Bheem Jai Samvidhan Yatra, and the Samvidhan Bachao Rashtriya Padayatra. These initiatives aim to strengthen party organization, promote Gandhian ideology, and defend constitutional values, respectively.
