Wed Dec 25 15:43:20 UTC 2024: ## Modi to Distribute 58 Lakh Property Cards Under Svamitva Scheme

**New Delhi, December 26, 2024** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually distribute 58 lakh property cards under the Svamitva scheme on Friday. The scheme, launched in April 2020, aims to digitize rural land records, providing “Record of Rights” to owners across over 50,000 villages in 12 states.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Panchayati Raj Ministry, seeks to facilitate property monetization, secure bank loans for owners, reduce disputes, and improve village-level planning. Officials report that the cards are now accepted by banks for loan applications and have significantly aided women in establishing ownership. The scheme has also proven useful in identifying open spaces for community development.

Thirteen Union Ministers will participate in distribution events across various states. The scheme, currently implemented in 31 states and union territories, has already finalized 2.19 crore property cards, with 92% of the targeted drone mapping completed. Officials project achieving the scheme’s targets by 2026. However, West Bengal, Bihar, Nagaland, and Meghalaya remain unboarded, a concern highlighted by central officials. Telangana and Bihar have their own similar schemes, while Sikkim, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu only participated in the pilot phase.
