**Chandigarh, [Date]** – A severe cold wave continues to grip Haryana, with Hisar’s Balsamand recording the lowest temperature at 4.9 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, according to the Chandigarh Meteorological Centre. Temperatures in several cities dipped below 10 degrees, including Ambala (9.2°C), Mahendragarh (6.1°C), and Rohtak (8.2°C). Dense fog was reported in Rewari, Sonipat, and parts of Bhiwani, causing delays to passenger trains. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for fog and cold wave across several districts, including Panchkula, Ambala, and Gurugram.
In response to the extreme cold, the Haryana government announced school closures from January 1st to 15th for all government and private schools. Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda confirmed the closure, stating that a formal notification will be released soon.
The weather forecast predicts a chance of rain starting on December 26th, particularly in the GT Road belt. There’s also a possibility of hail in some areas on December 27th. Light rain has already fallen in several areas over the past two days, reducing the rainfall deficit for December.
Dr. Madan Khichad, Head of the Agricultural Meteorology Department at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, anticipates a further drop in night temperatures due to cold northerly winds. He forecasts changeable weather conditions from December 26th to 28th, with some light rain, before a return to dry conditions from December 29th. The state has experienced a significant temperature drop, necessitating the school closures and weather alerts.
