Tue Dec 24 15:30:00 UTC 2024: **Former Florida State Linebacker Transfers to South Carolina**
TALLAHASSEE, FL – Former Florida State linebacker Shawn Murphy is leaving the Seminoles after just one season and transferring to the University of South Carolina, it was announced Monday. Murphy, a former four-star recruit from Alabama, joined FSU last January as part of a group of five Alabama transfers following Nick Saban’s retirement. His time in Tallahassee was hampered by an early-season injury, limiting his playing time. While he appeared in the final four games, contributing 13 tackles, two tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery, the move to South Carolina signals a less-than-successful transfer for the Seminole program.
Murphy is one of seventeen scholarship players to leave the Florida State program following a 2-10 season. The Seminoles, however, have bolstered their linebacker corps by adding transfers and recruiting new talent. South Carolina, boasting a 9-3 record, expects Murphy to contribute for two seasons. The Gamecocks will face Illinois in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl.
