**Hyderabad, India** – Telugu actor Allu Arjun underwent over three hours of questioning by Hyderabad Police on Tuesday regarding a stampede at a city theatre earlier this month. The stampede resulted in the death of a 35-year-old woman and life-threatening injuries to her eight-year-old son.
Arjun, who was summoned on Monday, arrived at the Chikkadpally Police Station accompanied by his father and legal representatives. Police questioned him until 2:45 pm, focusing on several key areas: whether he knew police permission for his appearance at the premiere had been denied; who authorized his attendance despite the denial; whether he was informed about the stampede; and when he learned of the woman’s death.
The investigation centers on whether Arjun had permission to be at the theatre and to interact with fans outside, particularly given the proximity to other cinema halls. Arjun was initially arrested on December 13th and charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, but was later granted interim bail by the Telangana High Court, which cited concerns about police overreach.
Police allege Arjun’s unannounced arrival at a special screening of his film, *Pushpa 2: The Rise*, caused a large crowd to gather, leading to the stampede. They claim his security team and theatre bouncers recklessly pushed back the crowd, exacerbating the situation. Arjun denies holding an impromptu roadshow, claiming he only waved to fans before entering the theatre. He also disputes the police’s claim that they were not informed of his visit, citing a letter requesting security that was sent 48 hours prior to the screening. The police, however, maintain that no formal request was made in person.
Along with Arjun, his security team, and the theatre owner and management have also been charged. While six theatre staff members were arrested and subsequently released on bail, the case against Arjun remains ongoing.
The deceased woman’s husband has stated he does not blame Arjun and is willing to withdraw the case, citing support and financial assistance from the actor and the film’s producers (a combined Rs 75 lakh). However, public opinion remains divided, with a protest outside Arjun’s home resulting in vandalism over the weekend. Arjun has condemned the misinformation surrounding the incident and expressed his regret over the tragedy.
