**THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, December 24, 2024** – A Thiruvananthapuram court has denied bail to three women caregivers arrested earlier this month for allegedly torturing a two-and-a-half-year-old girl in their care. Ajitha S.K., Maheswari L., and Sindhu were arrested by Museum police and charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
The alleged abuse, which included injuries to the child’s genitals, reportedly stemmed from the toddler’s bedwetting. A medical examination confirmed the injuries. The child and her younger sister have been under the care of the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare since October 21 following the death of their parents.
Additional Sessions Judge Shibu M.P. rejected the bail pleas, citing prima facie evidence of the caregivers’ involvement. The prosecution also expressed concerns about witness intimidation and evidence tampering. The accused have been in remand since December 3. The case has ignited public outrage, with calls for a thorough investigation and justice for the child.
