Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rainfall in coastal Andhra Pradesh due to a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal. The depression is currently moving towards the Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu coast, though its intensity remains uncertain.
The IMD forecasts widespread rainfall across the state until Thursday. The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has specifically warned of moderate to heavy rainfall in several districts, including Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle, Kakinada, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, and Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore. Similar warnings are in place for Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore, and Tirupati districts on Wednesday.
With winds reaching speeds of up to 55 kmph at sea, the Visakhapatnam Meteorological Centre has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea until Wednesday. Port warnings (level 3) remain in effect for several ports in Andhra Pradesh (Kalingapatnam, Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram, Kakinada, Machilipatnam, Nizampatnam, Krishnapatnam) and Tamil Nadu. The situation is being closely monitored.
