**Lucknow, UP –** Uttar Pradesh is experiencing a significant weather shift, transitioning from a severe cold snap to a period of rain, thunderstorms, and dense fog. The change is attributed to a western disturbance, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a rain alert for 16 districts.

Monday saw cloudy conditions across many parts of the state, with light drizzle in a few areas. The IMD has warned of rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and widespread dense fog on Tuesday. The effects of the western disturbance are expected to persist until December 28th.

**Rain and Thunderstorm Alert:** Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Mathura, Hathras, Agra, Bijnor, Amroha, and Muzaffarnagar, and surrounding areas are expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by rain and lightning.

**Dense Fog Alert:** Dense fog is predicted for Ballia, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Meerut, Bijnor, Amroha, Muzaffarnagar, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Sambhal, and Budaun, and surrounding areas.

**Lucknow Weather:** Lucknow experienced cloudy conditions on Monday with light fog in the morning and evening. Temperatures dropped slightly, with a maximum of 23.7°C (1.6°C above normal) and a minimum of 8°C (normal). The IMD forecasts light fog in the mornings and evenings on Tuesday, with cloudy conditions and possible light rain during the day, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected to be 22°C and 10°C respectively. Rain has already begun intermittently in the capital city.

**Temperature Extremes:** Ayodhya remained the coldest district on Monday, with a minimum temperature of 5.5°C (3°C below normal). Bahraich recorded the highest maximum temperature at 25.6°C (4°C above normal).

**Official Statements:** Dr. Atul Singh, a meteorologist, stated that isolated areas in eastern and western Uttar Pradesh could see thunderstorms and heavy fog on Tuesday.

**Tragedy Amidst Cold:** The report also highlights the death of an unidentified elderly man who died from suspected hypothermia after sleeping outdoors in Raebareli despite district administration’s instructions to provide adequate shelter during the cold wave.
