**KOCHI, KERALA (December 24, 2024)** – Union Minister for Power, Housing, and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, advocated for the implementation of a Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) in Kerala as the most suitable mass transit solution. Speaking to reporters after experiencing the Kochi Water Metro on Monday, Minister Lal stated that a metro system is impractical given the state’s geographical expanse. He confirmed that the central government would review a proposal for RRTS implementation should the Kerala state government submit one.

The Minister lauded the success of the Kochi Water Metro, highlighting its user-friendliness and comfort. Since its launch, the system has reportedly served approximately 3.5 million commuters. He further indicated that the central government would explore the feasibility of expanding similar water metro services to other regions of the country.
