Mon Dec 23 14:49:20 UTC 2024: ## Kumaraswamy Accuses Karnataka Government of Misusing Police Power

**SHIVAMOGGA, KARNATAKA –** Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Monday accused the Karnataka state government of misusing the police force to suppress political opponents. He questioned the overnight detention of BJP MLC C.T. Ravi in Belagavi, asking why Ravi, a public representative, wasn’t immediately presented before a magistrate. Kumaraswamy suggested the incident was a deliberate humiliation and demanded to know who ordered it, implying potential suspension for the officers involved if the BJP pursued legal action.

The former Chief Minister expressed concern over the alleged decline of the Karnataka police force, once considered a national model. He claimed officers are now acting on the directives of politicians for political gain, leading to the suppression of opponents through abuse of power and legal violations. He warned of a worsening situation in the coming days.

Kumaraswamy also targeted the Congress party’s contribution to Hassan district, questioning their achievements beyond the alleged release of compromising video clips involving former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna. He credited former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and former Minister H.D. Revanna with any development in the district, contrasting it with the Congress’s perceived lack of contribution. The minister concluded his remarks after visiting several temples in the region, accompanied by Mr. Revanna and other party leaders.
