Mon Dec 23 16:01:30 UTC 2024: ## Indian Team Calls Up Tanush Kotian as Spin Bowling Cover in Australia

**Melbourne, Australia** – Following Ravichandran Ashwin’s recent retirement, India has summoned off-spinner Tanush Kotian to join the squad for the remainder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to make an official announcement, reports indicate Kotian will depart for Australia on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old, who plays for Mumbai, was initially with his team competing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. His impressive performances, including a Player of the Tournament award in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24, have led to his selection. Kotian boasts an impressive first-class record of 101 wickets at an average of 25.70 and 1525 runs in 33 matches.

Kotian’s call-up comes after Axar Patel requested a break due to family commitments. A BCCI official, speaking anonymously, confirmed that Kotian’s inclusion serves as injury cover for Ravindra Jadeja or Washington Sundar, ensuring the team maintains its full complement of players. He is not expected to immediately feature in the playing XI. Kotian has prior experience in Australia, having played for India A at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
