**NEW DELHI** – Delhi Police have revealed that at least three recent school bomb threats, part of over 100 such incidents in the past 11 days, were perpetrated by students themselves. The threats, delivered via email, caused widespread panic and prompted thorough security checks at the affected schools.
In one case, two siblings attending Venkateshwar Global School sent a threatening email a day after a blast at a nearby multiplex. Police say the children confessed to the hoax, motivated by a desire to postpone exams. They were released after counseling and a warning to their parents. Similar incidents involving student-perpetrated threats were reported at two other schools in Rohini and Paschim Vihar, with the same underlying motive: school closures. In these cases as well, the students involved were counseled, and their parents warned.
While police have successfully identified the culprits in these three instances, the investigation into over 100 bomb threats targeting Delhi schools remains ongoing. The use of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) by the perpetrators is hindering the tracing of those responsible for the broader campaign. This wave of threats follows a pattern established since May, with over 50 similar bomb threat emails targeting schools, hospitals, airports, and airlines in the city. Police are yet to make any significant breakthroughs in these other cases.
