**Kuwait City, Kuwait** – In a landmark visit, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kuwait on Saturday, marking the first trip by an Indian PM in 43 years. His two-day visit aims to significantly bolster India-Kuwait relations across various sectors, particularly trade, energy, and investment.
Addressing a large gathering of the Indian diaspora, Modi lauded their contribution to Kuwait’s economy and highlighted Kuwait’s importance as a key energy and trade partner for India. He emphasized the shared interests of both nations in maintaining peace and stability in West Asia, a region currently experiencing significant unrest following recent events in Syria and Gaza.
Modi’s visit comes at a crucial time, with regional tensions remaining high. He recalled Kuwait’s support during the COVID-19 pandemic and the Mangaf fire tragedy, further underscoring the strong humanitarian ties between the two nations. He also met with Indian workers at the Gulf Spic Labour Camp.
During his stay, Modi will hold separate meetings with the Emir of Kuwait and the Crown Prince, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, energy, culture, and people-to-people ties. Bilateral trade between India and Kuwait reached $10.47 billion in 2023-24, demonstrating the substantial economic partnership.
The Prime Minister’s visit is expected to lay the groundwork for a future-oriented strategic partnership, solidifying India and Kuwait’s position as key players in the region’s economic and political landscape.
