Sat Dec 21 18:41:08 UTC 2024: ## Che Guevara’s Legacy Celebrated in Tamil Nadu

**Chennai, December 22, 2024** – The Tamil translation of “Che Guevara: A Revolutionary Life” was released in Chennai on Saturday, sparking calls for young people to transcend identity politics. The event, attended by prominent figures from the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the CPI(M), highlighted Che Guevara’s global vision and his renunciation of identity-based politics.

VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan emphasized the stark contrast between Guevara’s worldview and the current climate of religious and linguistic nationalism in India. He cautioned against the dangers of identity politics and urged youth to learn from Guevara’s example to overcome such divisive barriers. Thirumavalavan contrasted this with Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of nationalism transcending caste and religious identities.

CPI(M) State Secretary K. Balakrishnan lauded the translation, believing it will inspire Tamil Nadu’s youth and foster a more inclusive societal perspective. He noted Guevara’s brief but impactful life, dedicated to fighting for the oppressed across Latin America. The release was attended by members of the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association, VCK, and CPI(M).
