**CHENNAI, INDIA (December 21, 2024)** – A Chennai couple has been arrested for allegedly defrauding job seekers using a sophisticated scheme involving false promises of employment at the Madras High Court. Radhika, 39, impersonated a High Court judge, while her husband, Ganapathy, 33, acted as an intermediary.
The couple’s arrest followed a complaint by S. Rajesh, 37, a rental car driver who paid over ₹20 lakh for a purported office assistant position. Rajesh was introduced to Radhika through Ganapathy, who claimed his wife held a judicial position. Radhika provided Rajesh with a fraudulent appointment order and sent him for months of purported training at various locations.
Rajesh only discovered the fraud after verifying the appointment order with the High Court Registrar. The investigation revealed that the couple had similarly defrauded at least two other individuals, obtaining a total of ₹14 lakh through false promises of employment.
The police investigation uncovered that Radhika received ₹8 lakh from P. Suresh and his brother Vijayan and ₹6 lakh from R. Babu under false pretenses. The couple has been remanded in judicial custody. The case highlights the vulnerability of job seekers and underscores the need for caution when dealing with unsolicited job offers.
