Sat Dec 21 05:49:35 UTC 2024: ## FIR Filed Against Rahul Gandhi After Parliament Clash
**New Delhi, December 19, 2024** – A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi by the Delhi Police. The FIR alleges assault and incitement to violence during a scuffle in Parliament on Thursday. The complaint was filed by BJP MP Hemang Joshi of Vadodara, who claims that several BJP MPs sustained injuries, some serious, after being pushed by Gandhi and other opposition MPs.
The incident occurred amidst ongoing tensions stemming from Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar during a parliamentary debate. Both BJP and Congress MPs engaged in separate protests, resulting in a physical altercation near the main entrance to Parliament.
Joshi’s complaint states that Gandhi forcefully pushed his way through a peaceful BJP demonstration, endangering the safety of several MPs. He specifically cites injuries to MPs Mukesh Rajput and Pratap Sarangi. The FIR is registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those related to intentional assault, causing grievous hurt, and criminal intimidation.
While the FIR makes Gandhi potentially liable for arrest, reports suggest that arrest is not mandatory for the offenses mentioned, as they are bailable.
Congress, however, countered with their own allegations, claiming BJP MPs instigated the violence, pushing and assaulting Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge. They have also filed a separate complaint with the police. Both sides have released video footage supporting their claims, with each showing different perspectives of the incident.
The clash highlights the deep political divide over Shah’s controversial remarks on Dr. Ambedkar. The situation led to disruptions in Parliament’s proceedings and raised questions about the decorum and safety within the legislative complex. The Delhi Police Crime Branch is currently investigating the matter.
