**Chandigarh, December 21, 2024** – A delegation from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) met with Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Friday to address the ongoing fast-unto-death protest by farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal. Dallewal, a 70-year-old cancer patient, is protesting at the Khanauri border, demanding the central government address farmers’ concerns, including a legally guaranteed minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
AAP leaders, including Punjab unit president Aman Arora, urged the Governor to intervene and pressure the central government into negotiations. Arora emphasized the urgency of the situation, highlighting Dallewal’s deteriorating health and the farmers’ legitimate demands. Doctors have advised hospitalization for Dallewal.
The protest, involving farmers under the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, has been ongoing since February 13th at the Punjab-Haryana border. AAP MPs also staged a protest in Delhi, echoing concerns about Dallewal’s health and demanding central government action. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has separately called on the Centre to engage in dialogue with the protesting farmers.
In addition to the farmers’ protest, the AAP delegation also submitted a memorandum to the Governor demanding the removal of Union Home Minister Amit Shah from the cabinet. The memorandum cited Shah’s alleged disparaging remarks about B.R. Ambedkar as unacceptable and offensive. Protests against Shah’s comments were also held across Punjab.
