Fri Dec 20 17:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett Join Anne Hathaway in Amazon’s Adaptation of “Verity”
**Los Angeles, CA** – Amazon MGM Studios has announced a star-studded cast for its upcoming film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling thriller, *Verity*. Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett will join Anne Hathaway in the project, directed by Michael Showalter.
Based on the #1 New York Times bestseller, *Verity* follows struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson) who is hired to complete the remaining books in a successful series by the incapacitated author Verity Crawford (Hathaway). The job takes her to the Crawford estate where she uncovers a hidden manuscript containing shocking secrets about the family. Hartnett will play Jeremy Crawford, Verity’s husband.
The film boasts a strong producing team including Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Michael Showalter, Jordana Mollick, Anne Hathaway, Colleen Hoover, and Stacey Sher. Dakota Johnson will also executive produce. The project falls under Semi-Formal Productions’ first-look film deal with Amazon MGM.
*Verity*, a gothic, psychosexual thriller likened to *Rebecca* and *Gone Girl*, has sold over a million copies in 2023 alone. This adaptation follows the success of the film adaptation of Hoover’s *It Ends With Us*, which grossed $346 million worldwide.
Johnson, fresh off roles in *Daddio*, *Materialists*, and *Splitsville*, will continue to showcase her range. Hartnett, recently seen in *Oppenheimer* and *Trap*, adds further weight to the ensemble.
*Verity* is slated for a theatrical release, though no date has been set.
