Sat Dec 21 02:54:05 UTC 2024: ## FIR Filed Against Rahul Gandhi Following Parliament Scuffle

**New Delhi, Dec 20** – A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, along with other Congress MPs, following a scuffle in Parliament on Thursday. The incident occurred during a protest by the INDIA bloc demanding the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The FIR, registered by Delhi Police, charges Gandhi under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including those related to causing grievous hurt, endangering life, assault, and criminal intimidation. These charges carry potential prison sentences ranging from three months to seven years.

The clash erupted after BJP MP Pratap Singh Sarangi alleged that Gandhi pushed another BJP MP, Mukesh Rajput, causing Sarangi to fall and injure himself. Both Sarangi and Rajput were taken to hospital for treatment. Congress, however, countered that BJP MPs were obstructing Gandhi and other Congress members from entering Parliament, alleging that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge was also pushed.

Following the incident, MPs from both the BJP and Congress filed complaints with the police. While Parliament briefly resumed proceedings, it was later adjourned amidst continued shouting between the opposing sides.

Although the offences are bailable and arrest is not mandatory, the charges are serious. The incident highlights the escalating tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition INDIA bloc in Parliament. Gandhi maintains his innocence, attributing the scuffle to the BJP’s actions. The legal proceedings are expected to continue.
