**Madurai, December 20, 2024** – Water levels in the Mullaperiyar and Vaigai dams in Tamil Nadu remain below their full capacity, according to the latest data released by The Hindu. As of Friday, the Mullaperiyar dam registered a water level of 130.05 feet (permissible level: 142 feet), with an inflow of 1,276 cusecs and an outflow of 1,400 cusecs. The Vaigai dam recorded a level of 64.30 feet (71 feet), with an inflow of 2,136 cusecs and an outflow of 1,699 cusecs. The combined storage in Periyar credit stood at 6,768.15 mcft.

Rainfall in the region varied considerably over the past 24 hours, with Kallandhiri receiving the highest amount at 55 mm. Other areas, such as Pulipatti, Thaniyamangalam, Mettupatti, and Melur, received rainfall ranging from 27.4 mm to 10.4 mm. Shanmuganadhi and Sathiyar dams reported significantly lower rainfall amounts.
