Fri Dec 20 16:05:04 UTC 2024: ## Tiruppur Farmers Protest Land Ownership Claims
**TIRUPPUR, December 20, 2024** – Farmer organizations in Tiruppur are protesting the actions of the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department and the Wakf Board, accusing them of unjustly claiming ownership of inam lands. The farmers have submitted petitions to the Assembly Petitions Committee, demanding enforcement of the Tamil Nadu Minor Inams (Abolition and Conversion into Ryotwari) Act of 1963.
The farmers, represented by the Tamil Nadu Farmers Protection Association and other groups, argue that they are long-time tillers of these lands and are being treated as encroachers. They criticize the HR&CE Department and Wakf Board for their approach, citing the progress other states have made in upholding principles of natural justice. The organizations also condemn mainstream political parties for neglecting the farmers’ plight.
Further fueling their frustration is the zero valuation placed on these properties by the Registration Department, hindering government revenue generation. Earlier this year, farmers staged a protest by hoisting black flags, opposing what they term the “unjustifiable” actions of the government departments. They also demand that inam lands be exempted from the 2007 amendment to the Land Registration Act (Section 22-A), which allows the government to declare certain document registrations against public policy. The situation highlights ongoing tensions over land ownership and rights in the region.
