**Vijayawada, December 20, 2024** – Vijayawada police have arrested four members of a five-person gang posing as police officers who robbed a goldsmith of ₹25.57 lakh. The gang, which included a woman, was apprehended following a thorough investigation launched after the December 11th robbery.
The arrested individuals are Chegu Pardhasai, Subhani Khan, G. Vamshi Krishnam Raju, and Prathipati Shanti. Rowdy sheeter Shaik Azharuddin remains at large. The gang intercepted a car carrying the cash near Satyanarayanapuram police station limits, falsely identifying themselves as police before making off with the money.
Police Commissioner S.V. Rajashekar Babu stated that a special team, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police K. Tirumaleswar Reddy and Additional DCP (Crimes) M. Raja Rao, was formed to investigate the crime. Investigations revealed that Pardhasai, formerly a resident of Jaggaiahpet, orchestrated the robbery after learning of the goldsmith’s travel plans. The gang subsequently divided the loot and disposed of the victim’s mobile phone.
A tip-off led to the arrest of the four suspects in a house near BRTS Road, where the ₹25.57 lakh was recovered. The police are continuing their efforts to apprehend the remaining member of the gang.
