**Bengaluru, [Date]** – Former Karnataka Minister and BJP leader CT Ravi was transferred to Bengaluru today following his arrest in Belagavi yesterday. Ravi was apprehended for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar, calling her a “prostitute” at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha.
The case will now be heard by a special court for elected representatives in Bengaluru. Ravi’s lawyer, Raviraj Patil, confirmed the jurisdiction magistrate’s order transferring the accused.
Ravi’s arrest sparked widespread protests across Karnataka. BJP workers and supporters demonstrated in several cities, including Chikkamagaluru, Belagavi, and Kalaburagi, condemning the arrest. In Chikkamagaluru, police took several protesting leaders into preventive custody for obstructing traffic. The party had called for a bandh in Ravi’s home district in protest.
During his transfer to Bengaluru, Ravi alleged police misconduct, claiming an unnecessary and potentially dangerous route was taken without prior notice. He further alleged a police conspiracy to murder him and claimed to have sustained injuries during his arrest. He characterized the situation as a “dictatorship” and vowed that such actions would not stand.
Ravi has applied for bail in the Bengaluru sessions court, with a decision expected later today.
