Fri Dec 20 13:33:24 UTC 2024: ## CAT 2024 Results Announced: 99th Percentile at 93 Marks

**Mumbai, India –** The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2024 results were released late last night, concluding the first phase of admissions for India’s next generation of MBA aspirants. Nearly 2.93 lakh candidates took the exam, with the 99th percentile landing at approximately 93 marks out of a possible 204, following score normalization across three exam slots.

The exam, held on November 24th across 170 cities, saw a significant gender disparity: 1.07 lakh female candidates and 1.86 lakh male candidates, alongside 9 transgender candidates. Category-wise distribution included 67.20% General, 5.09% EWS, 17.5% NC-OBC, 8.08% SC, 2.12% ST, and 0.41% PwD candidates.

Score normalization adjusted for varying difficulty levels across the morning, afternoon, and evening slots. The morning slot, considered easier, saw scores significantly scaled down, while the afternoon slot, deemed the most challenging, experienced marginal score increases. The Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC) section showed minimal scaling, unlike the Quantitative Ability (QA) and Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation (DILR) sections, which saw more substantial adjustments. Fourteen candidates achieved a perfect 100th percentile.

IIMs and 86 other institutes will utilize these scores for shortlisting candidates for the next phase, which includes a Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI), beginning in January. Admission cutoffs vary across institutions and categories, with general category students potentially receiving interview calls as low as the 90th percentile. The final merit list will consider CAT scores, WAT/PI performance, academic profile, and diversity factors. Aspiring MBA candidates can learn from this year’s trends to refine their preparation strategies for future exams.
