**New Delhi, Dec 29** – The mother of Atul Subhash, a Bengaluru engineer who died by suicide on December 9th, has filed a habeas corpus petition in the Supreme Court seeking custody of her four-year-old grandson. The petition alleges that the child’s whereabouts are unknown following Subhash’s death, which was preceded by video and written notes accusing his wife and in-laws of harassment and false accusations.
Subhash’s wife, Nikita Singhania, her mother, and brother are currently in judicial custody, charged with abetment to suicide based on evidence found in Subhash’s suicide note and video. While Nikita initially claimed the child was enrolled in a Faridabad boarding school under the care of her uncle, Sushil Singhania, Sushil has denied this.
The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Karnataka governments, demanding clarification on the child’s location. A hearing is scheduled for January 7th.
Meanwhile, the Allahabad High Court granted pre-arrest bail to Sushil Singhania, citing his age and health conditions. However, strict conditions were imposed, including a personal bond and surrender of his passport.
Subhash’s family alleges a pattern of harassment involving false legal cases and financial demands by Nikita Singhania and her family. They have vowed not to immerse Subhash’s ashes until justice is served and expressed deep concern for the child’s safety and well-being. The family’s fight for justice and the search for the missing child continue.
