Thu Dec 19 15:05:30 UTC 2024: ## West Bengal CM Condemns Amit Shah’s Remarks on Ambedkar

**Kolkata, December 19, 2024** – West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee strongly condemned Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent comments on B.R. Ambedkar, calling them “shocking” and a reflection of the BJP’s “casteist and anti-Dalit mindset.” Ms. Banerjee’s statement, made during the inauguration of the Kolkata Christmas Festival, follows her earlier criticism of Mr. Shah’s remarks in the Rajya Sabha.

Mr. Shah’s comments, made during the Parliament’s winter session, reportedly criticized the Opposition’s frequent invocation of Ambedkar’s name. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) termed the remarks derogatory and an insult to Ambedkar’s legacy. TMC Rajya Sabha leader Derek O’Brien has filed a privilege motion against Mr. Shah.

The controversy sparked protests from both the NDA and INDIA blocs in Parliament. Ms. Banerjee’s condemnation adds to the growing political firestorm surrounding Mr. Shah’s statements and their implications for the BJP’s image.
