Thu Dec 19 15:53:58 UTC 2024: ## Wolves Appoint Pereira as Manager in Desperate Bid to Avoid Relegation

**Wolverhampton, England –** Wolverhampton Wanderers have appointed Vitor Pereira as their new manager, in a last-ditch attempt to stave off relegation from the Premier League. The 56-year-old Portuguese coach joins the struggling club after being released from his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab.

Pereira takes over a Wolves team languishing in next-to-last place with only two wins from their first 16 matches. The club sacked Gary O’Neil on Sunday following a 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town. Wolves are currently five points adrift of safety.

Pereira, who boasts a varied managerial career that has taken him to clubs across Europe and Asia, including Porto, Olympiakos, Fenerbahce, and Shanghai Port, has already begun training with the team. His first match in charge will be a crucial away fixture against Leicester City this Saturday.

Wolves chairman Jeff Shi expressed confidence in Pereira’s ability to turn the team’s fortunes around, stating, “This is a challenging moment for the club, and we want to thank Vitor for taking on this responsibility. We have full confidence in his ability to guide us back on track.” Pereira has signed an 18-month contract.

The appointment comes at a critical juncture for Wolves, with upcoming fixtures against Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. The club paid Pereira’s release clause to secure his services. Meanwhile, Al Shabab, currently sixth in the Saudi Pro League, will continue their training camp in Qatar ahead of their next league match.
