**Mandya, Karnataka (Dec 19, 2024):** Go. Ru. Channabasappa, president of the 87th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana (All India Kannada Literary Conference), arrived in Mandya today to a warm traditional welcome. The event, set to begin tomorrow, is expected to draw large crowds.

Mr. Channabasappa was greeted with a “purnakumbha” ceremony and performances by traditional folk troupes upon his arrival at the venue on the Mysuru-Bengaluru Expressway. He was received by dignitaries including the Minister in charge of Mandya district, N. Cheluvarayaswamy, and Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Mahesh Joshi.

Mandya is preparing for a festive atmosphere, with the city brightly lit and roads decorated. Organizers plan for approximately 25,000 houses to display the Kannada flag on Friday, further enhancing the celebratory ambience. Yellow and red buntings and portraits of notable Kannada writers adorn the city.

A grand procession, flagged off by Pramoda Devi Wadiyar of the erstwhile Mysore royal family, will escort Mr. Channabasappa to the main venue. The conference’s inauguration, scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow, will be presided over by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, with several other dignitaries in attendance, including Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Jnanpith award winner Chandrashekar Kambar. The program includes book exhibitions and various sessions throughout the day, culminating in an evening felicitation of achievers.
