**Hyderabad, December 19, 2024** – Renowned folk artiste Darshanam Mogilaiah, best known for his role in the Telugu film “Balagam,” passed away this morning at the age of 67. Mogilaiah, a master of the Kinnera, a stringed instrument similar to the Veena, had been battling kidney-related ailments and other health issues for several years. He breathed his last at a private hospital in Warangal.

Mogilaiah, a member of the Budaga Jangala community, was celebrated for his significant contribution to preserving the fading tradition of tribal music. His expertise on the Kinnera earned him the prestigious Padma Shri award from the Indian government. He is considered one of the last remaining players of this instrument.

Following news of his declining health, the Telangana government provided financial assistance and supported his medical treatment. Several film actors also contributed to his care in recent months. His poignant elegy in the climax of “Balagam,” performed alongside his wife, brought him widespread recognition.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, and TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud were among those who offered their condolences, noting Mogilaiah’s lasting impact on Telangana’s cultural landscape. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
