Thu Dec 19 04:05:25 UTC 2024: ## China Accuses US of Two Major Cyberattacks Targeting Tech Firms

**Beijing, December 19, 2024** – China’s National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Centre (CNCERT/CC) has accused the United States of launching two separate cyberattacks targeting Chinese technology companies since May 2023. The attacks, allegedly perpetrated by a US intelligence agency, resulted in the theft of significant trade secrets from an advanced materials firm and a large-scale high-tech company specializing in intelligent energy and digital information.

The CNCERT/CC, a non-governmental body serving as China’s national computer emergency response team, detailed the incidents in a statement published on its website. While the specific US agency involved remains unnamed, the accusations mirror past claims from both sides, with the US and its allies previously accusing China of similar state-sponsored cyber espionage.

This latest accusation comes amidst escalating tensions between the US and China, particularly concerning US export controls targeting China’s semiconductor and AI industries. The US Department of State has yet to respond to a request for comment.

The CNCERT/CC’s statement also follows a March 2022 report detailing a wave of cyberattacks originating primarily from the US, which allegedly used compromised Chinese computers to target Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. The current accusations represent a significant escalation in the ongoing cyber warfare between the two global powers.
