Thu Dec 19 12:41:17 UTC 2024: **Congress Demands Shah’s Resignation Over Ambedkar Remarks**
NEW DELHI (December 19, 2024) – The Congress party today launched a scathing attack on Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding his resignation and an apology for alleged insulting remarks made against B.R. Ambedkar. Party leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi held a joint press conference, accusing the BJP of attempting to deflect attention from the controversy by raising other issues.
Kharge stated that the Congress’s sole demand is Shah’s resignation and that BJP MPs physically obstructed Congress members from entering Parliament during protests. He cited an instance where he was allegedly pushed and lost his balance. Gandhi echoed these sentiments, characterizing the BJP-RSS ideology as anti-constitutional and anti-Ambedkar. He reiterated the party’s commitment to continuing its protests, also mentioning the Adani issue.
The BJP countered these accusations, with party president J.P. Nadda claiming the Congress is exposed on the Ambedkar issue and citing a past incident involving an NCERT textbook. Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also accused the Congress of harboring long-standing animosity towards Ambedkar.
The clash led to high drama outside Parliament, with both the BJP and Congress trading accusations of “jostling” and resulting in disruptions to parliamentary proceedings. The incident also prompted the Congress to receive a notice from X (formerly Twitter) regarding shared video clips of Shah’s Rajya Sabha speech. The Congress plans a nationwide movement to press its demands.
