**DETROIT, MI** – Honda announced today the return of its legendary Prelude sports coupe, this time as a hybrid-electric vehicle. The all-new Prelude is slated for a late 2025 U.S. market launch, marking a significant milestone in Honda’s electrification strategy and a reunion of its original trio of models – Civic, Accord, and Prelude – all now available as hybrids.
The new Prelude will feature Honda’s innovative S+ Shift drive mode, designed to enhance driver engagement. The concept debuted at the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show, 45 years after the original Prelude’s launch. This revival aligns with Honda’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050, with a target of 100% battery-electric and fuel-cell electric vehicle sales by 2040.
“The return of the Honda Prelude as a hybrid-electric sports model demonstrates our continued commitment to offering a variety of exhilarating products to meet the needs of our customers,” said Jessika Laudermilk, assistant vice president of Honda Auto Sales.
Honda’s electrification push is already seeing considerable success. Hybrid-electric models now account for over a quarter of Honda’s total sales, exceeding 50% of Accord and CR-V sales. The company also celebrated 25 years of hybrid sales in America this month. Further bolstering its electric vehicle lineup, Honda launched its first all-electric SUV, the Prologue, earlier this year and will begin production of EVs based on a new Honda-developed platform late next year. Additional electric models under the Honda 0 Series are also planned for the coming years.
The resurrected Prelude represents a key element in Honda’s broader strategy to offer a diverse range of electrified vehicles, blending performance with environmental responsibility.
