Tue Dec 17 12:51:45 UTC 2024: ## Zimbabwe Penalized for Slow Over-Rate in T20 Series Loss to Afghanistan

HARARE, ZIMBABWE – Zimbabwe concluded their three-match T20I series against Afghanistan with a loss, further marred by a penalty for slow over-rate offences in the final match at Harare Sports Club. Umpires Iknow Chabi, Forster Mutizwa, Percival Sizara, and Langton Rusere imposed the sanction under ICC Article 2.22 for minimum over-rate offences. Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza accepted responsibility for the slow over-rate.

Despite early success in the series, Zimbabwe ultimately fell to Afghanistan, who secured victories in the second and third matches to clinch the series 2-1. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan played a key role in the final match, taking four wickets as his team chased down Zimbabwe’s 128-run target. Strong performances from Zimbabwean players like Brian Bennett and Wessly Madhevere were not enough to overcome Afghanistan’s dominance.

The two teams will now contest a series of One Day Internationals and Test matches, continuing their all-format series in Zimbabwe.
