Tue Dec 17 12:52:12 UTC 2024: ## Gurbaz Out, Ishaq In for Afghanistan’s ODI Series Against Zimbabwe

**Harare, Zimbabwe –** Afghanistan will be without star wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz for their upcoming three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced that Gurbaz has been ruled out due to a Grade 2B quadriceps injury and a hip flexor problem.

Nineteen-year-old Mohammad Ishaq has been called up as Gurbaz’s replacement. Ishaq, who has five T20I appearances under his belt, is yet to make his ODI debut.

The ACB also confirmed that spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman will be rested for the series. Mujeeb, who has been recovering from a right phalanx sprain since June, returned to competitive cricket recently but the team management has decided not to rush his return to full international play.

Gurbaz’s recent form was modest, scoring only 26 runs across the three T20Is against Zimbabwe, a series Afghanistan won 2-1.

The ODI series begins today in Harare. The updated Afghanistan squad includes Ishaq as the new wicketkeeper.
