Tue Dec 17 15:58:18 UTC 2024: ## Domestic Success Fuels Rajat Patidar’s Hopes for India Recall
**Bangalore, India (Dec 17, 2024)** – Rajat Patidar, despite a less-than-stellar start to his international cricket career, remains confident of a return to the Indian jersey. While a disappointing showing in the Test series against England earlier this year (63 runs in six innings) initially dimmed his prospects, Patidar has emphatically bounced back with impressive performances in domestic cricket.
His strong displays in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) and Ranji Trophy have reignited his aspirations. He acknowledges the setbacks, stating, “Life doesn’t always go as planned. It’s crucial not just to accept failures but to learn from them.” He added that he’s focusing on his game, aiming to create new opportunities.
Patidar’s recent form is undeniable. In the Ranji Trophy, he amassed 427 runs at an average of 53.37 in five matches, including a century and multiple half-centuries. His SMAT performance was equally impressive, scoring 347 runs with a strike rate of 182.63, placing him third in the tournament’s highest run-scorers list. He attributes this success to honing his strengths and consistently refining his game over the past two years.
His retention by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ahead of this year’s IPL auction has further boosted his confidence. “RCB is a big franchise, and their decision to retain me fills me with pride,” he said. With RCB’s captaincy position vacant following Faf du Plessis’ departure, Patidar’s name has emerged as a potential candidate. While acknowledging the possibility, he emphasized that the final decision rests with the franchise.
Patidar also highlighted his captaincy experience, stating that it doesn’t burden him but rather enhances his understanding of the game and player management. He credits his coach, Chandrakant Pandit, for his guidance.
