Tue Dec 17 14:11:11 UTC 2024: ## Pakistan’s Test Coach Gillespie Resigns Amidst Series of Setbacks

**Johannesburg, South Africa** – Jason Gillespie has resigned as head coach of Pakistan’s Test cricket team, just eight months into a two-year contract. The former Australian fast bowler’s departure comes after a series of mixed results, including a series loss to Bangladesh and a heavy defeat to England in the first Test of their recent series, although Pakistan ultimately won the series 2-1.

Gillespie, 49, expressed frustrations with the role, stating that it wasn’t what he had anticipated. His resignation follows the earlier departure of white-ball coach Gary Kirsten in October. Aqib Javed, who recently led Pakistan’s white-ball team in Zimbabwe, has been appointed as the interim red-ball head coach. He will take charge immediately, with a Test series against South Africa commencing on December 26th.

The PCB announcement comes as Pakistan is currently engaged in a limited-overs tour of South Africa. While Gillespie led the team to a one-day series victory over Australia during Kirsten’s absence, he also oversaw a T20 series loss. His removal from Pakistan’s selection panel after the first Test against England further signaled difficulties within the team’s structure. The PCB will now begin the search for a permanent replacement for Gillespie ahead of crucial upcoming matches.
