**Hyderabad, December 17, 2024** – Srishti art gallery in Jubilee Hills is hosting “Inked Legacies, Linked Geographies,” an exhibition celebrating the rich history of printmaking in the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh regions. The show, curated by Deeksha Nath, highlights the significant influence of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara, on artists from the Telugu-speaking states.
The exhibition, which runs until February 2025, features works by renowned artists who trained at Vadodara, including K.G. Subramanyan, Jyoti Bhatt, Gulam Mohammed Sheikh, and many more. The pieces, spanning various printmaking techniques like etching, lithography, and woodcut, showcase a blend of global art movements and traditional Indian artistic practices.
Gallery owner Lakshmi Nambiar conceived the exhibition after artist Gayatri Dhanturi proposed showcasing artists mentored by Jyoti Bhatt. Nambiar expanded the scope to encompass the wider influence of the Vadodara faculty, recognizing its long-standing relationship with artists from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The curated selection emphasizes the evolution of printmaking styles, highlighting the individual artistic expressions of each artist while demonstrating the interconnectedness of their artistic lineage.
The exhibition’s chronological arrangement, starting with works by faculty members like Subramanyan and Bhatt, progresses to showcase the diverse styles of their students. The works explore a range of themes, from the feminine form and rural life to urban landscapes and social commentary, demonstrating the versatility of printmaking as a medium.
“Inked Legacies, Linked Geographies” offers a compelling journey through the evolution of printmaking, showcasing both the masters and their legacy in the Telugu-speaking states. The exhibition serves as a valuable introduction to the history and development of printmaking in the region, demonstrating its enduring relevance and artistic vibrancy.
