Mon Dec 16 13:38:17 UTC 2024: ## Eleven Indian Nationals Die from Carbon Monoxide Poisoning in Georgia

**Tbilisi, Georgia –** Eleven Indian nationals perished from carbon monoxide poisoning at an Indian restaurant in the Georgian mountain resort of Gudauri, the Indian embassy in Tbilisi confirmed on Monday. Initial investigations by Georgian authorities revealed no signs of violence or foul play. Local media, citing police reports, attribute the deaths to carbon monoxide poisoning emanating from a generator improperly placed indoors near the victims’ bedrooms.

The victims, all employees of the “Haveli” restaurant, were reportedly from northern India. While the embassy initially reported twelve deaths, Georgian authorities clarified that eleven were foreign nationals (all Indian) and one was a Georgian citizen. The bodies were discovered in bedrooms on the second floor of the establishment.

The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation under Article 116 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to negligent manslaughter. The investigation centers on a generator that was likely activated after a power outage on Friday night. A forensic medical examination will determine the exact cause of death. The Indian embassy is actively cooperating with local authorities to repatriate the remains and provide support to the bereaved families.
