**Bengaluru, December 17, 2024** – The Karnataka Legislative Assembly today paid tribute to renowned environmentalist and Padma Shri awardee Tulasi Gowda, who passed away on Monday at the age of 81. Speaker U.T. Khader led the obituary motion, praising Gowda’s decades-long commitment to forest conservation.

Affectionately known as “Vruksha Maathe” (Mother of Trees), Gowda dedicated over 65 years of her life to protecting the environment. Having lost her husband at a young age, she nurtured trees as her own children, showcasing remarkable dedication despite facing poverty. According to Law Minister H.K. Patil, Gowda identified nearly 300 tree species and planted lakhs of saplings. Her selfless devotion to environmental conservation earned her national recognition, including the prestigious Padma Shri award, where she received the blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok recalled. Gowda’s legacy serves as an inspiration for future generations, highlighting the power of individual commitment to environmental protection.
